As a congregation of the
Evangelical Covenant Church, we believe in the eternal truths expressed in the Covenant Affirmations. We also commit to living by a set of promises (our behavioral covenant) that set the standard for how we live together as a faithful community.
- We affirm the centrality of the word of God.
- We affirm the necessity of the new birth.
- We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the Church.
- We affirm the Church as a fellowship of believers.
- We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
- We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.
The Behavioral Covenant of Faith Covenant Church
Our Promises to One Another in the Community of Faith
Our vision is to be a faithful Christian community that truly loves Jesus and loves others, as we carry out the mission God has specifically given us. Desiring to nurture this reality, we individually and congregationally make these promises to each other and to our Lord:
We will strive to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace by:
- prayerfully discerning what is best for Faith as a whole (Jeremiah 29:11)
- setting aside our personal interests for the interests of others (Romans 12:3–9)
- being willing to be inconvenienced for the gospel (Romans 1:16)
We will embrace the diversity of opinion, interpretation and expression of the Christian faith by:
- honoring other people’s love for the Scripture and seeking to learn from others! (Psalm 119:103 and John 13:34)
- striving to believe the best about other people and working to communicate with others in a Christ-honoring way (1 Peter 5:5–6 and Colossians 4:6)
- being quick to listen and slow to speak (James 1:19–20)
We will honor the decisions of the body by:
- trusting that others love the church as much as we do (1 Corinthians 12:27)
- supporting our pastors/leaders to make their work a joy, not a burden (Hebrews 13:7)
- treating others with respect, dignity and humility (Philippians 2:1–8)
We will give God, his kingdom and this church a healthy, missional stewardship by:
- offering our time, talents, spiritual gifts and finances to the Lord’s work!(Luke 12:48)
- exploring the roles and opportunities God is giving us (Galatians 6:9–10)
- willingly supporting the ministry of others (Romans 12:15)
